An alkaline filter typically contains a bed of natural mineral stones or ceramic balls, such as calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide, and potassium. As the highly purified (and often slightly acidic) RO water passes through this media, it naturally absorbs these minerals in a controlled release, which elevates the water’s pH to a desirable range of approximately 8.0 to 9.5.
